After eight years of clinical practice, with hands-on, intimate knowledge of human anatomy and physiology, Dr. Cal Hunter found himself convinced of one thing — that there was no way for the human body to have come into being by pure happenstance (as espoused in Darwin’s theory of evolution). His conviction about this was so strong in fact, that he decided to give up his clinical practice and enter the Ministry.

This book — Evidence Of Intelligent Design In Human Physiology — was written and published in 2007 by Dr. Hunter in order to demonstrate to others the degree of complexity and purpose found in many physiological structures in the human body. And this he does quite well indeed.

Dr. Hunter provides clear and comprehensive descriptions of the human brain, the cardio-vascular system, the auto-immune system, the eye, the ear, and the sense of smell and taste… all without getting too technical or going ‘over the head’ of the average reader.

But what exactly is the significance of this purpose and complexity found in these physiological structures and systems? Well it argues quite strongly for the validity of intelligent design in the creation of life on this Earth, and the invalidity of the theory of evolution — all because of the concept of Irreducible Complexity.

For example the human eye would not be able to provide us with sight if any major component of this structure was missing, or not formed exactly the way it is. So it would be impossible for the eye to have evolved from a simpler structure, since that simpler structure would be non-functional and therefore provide no advantage to be preferentially promoted through natural selection.

This is indeed quite a strong argument for Intelligent Design as the mechanism of creation of life on the Earth rather than Evolution. However, my one criticism of Dr. Hunter’s work is that I thought he could have done a better job of explaining the concept of Irreducible Complexity to the lay person, as well as the great significance of this concept in disproving Darwin’s theory of evolution.

All in all, I found Dr. Cal Hunter’s “Evidence Of Intelligent Design In Human Physiology” to be a relatively easy read considering the subject matter being discussed, and a great resource for anyone who enjoys Christian apologetics.

For many years after that I sort of casually kept an eye out for the entire book, but back then there wasn’t a great selection of books available cheaply in Trinidad.

Well, I almost couldn’t contain myself when I saw that someone had actually made The Princess Bride into a movie. And I wasn’t disappointed in the least - what a great flick! Inconceivable!

Finally, a few years ago I came across William Goldman’s re-telling of this wonderfully whimsical, yet totally action-packed tale. And now I have my very own copy of The Princess Bride and the movie too. Yeah!!! I highly recommend this one - both the book and The Princess Bride Movie - especially if you have kids.

Basically, what Mr. Strong did was to identify every single occurrence of a particular word - say “brother” for example - in the Bible, list every chapter and verse with the phrase containing that word and then give the exact hebrew or greek word that was used in the original manuscript. You can then go look up the original hebrew or greek word in the appropriate dictionary to find the original meaning(s). Then it’s up to you to decide whether or not you think the Bible translators got it right, or if there is another possible meaning that you think they should have used. Another nice feature is the phonetic information that’s included throughout - so you can finally figure out how to pronounce Mephibosheth.

In my opinion, the Strong’s Concordance should be the first Bible study tool in your library - after your Bible of course.

God bless!
Paula.

Whether or not you agree with Mr. Peretti’s version of the goings-on in the spiritual realm - battles between angels and demons, etc. - you’ll love this captivating, action-adventure told from the Christian perspective. The characters are very well-developed, and all too human at times. But of course that’s what makes them so easy to relate to and identify with.

If you’re looking for an awesome adventure tale that doesn’t have any parts that might give your conscience pause, then run out to the library or book store and grab your own copy of Piercing the Darkness. Or check out some more Christian Books by Frank Peretti.

So I decided to move my book reviews (infrequent though they may be) to a WordPress blog, because updating the information is sooo much easier!

Plus you’ll be able to search for a specific book with the built-in search capability of WordPress.

Now, regular visitors to the site will already know that I also review a few non-christian books here as well. But the focus is on Christan Books.

I’ll also be duplicating the information on the more popular Christian Bookstores here on the blog just to make it easier to get to that info, but I’ll probably just include links to the other pages on the main site.

I’ll be sure to keep you posted on my progress with these updates as I go along.

Happy reading!
Paula.
